Böse Dinge. Eine Enzyklopädie des Ungeschmacks

Für sein weit verzweigtes System zur "Ordnung der Dinge" entwickelte Gustav E. Pazaurek zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts eine phantasievolle Nomenklatur des Bösen, die sich heute leicht als Auswuchs der Sprachromantik des 19. Jahrhunderts verwerfen ließe. Tatsächlich können Pazaureks Zweckkollisionen, seine Materialvergewaltigungen und Dekorbrutalitäten nicht nur aktuelle Fragen nach Gestaltung und Material, sondern auch den Einfluss der Dinge auf unser Handeln beleuchten. Herstellung, Erscheinung und Gebrauch sind heute wieder eine moralische Angelegenheit, in der die Kategorien "gut" und "schlecht" implizit verhandelt werden.
Die Ausstellung will Pazaureks Systematisierung zum Ausgangspunkt nehmen, um der aktuellen Wertediskussion durch die Konfrontation alter und neuer "böser Dinge" Tiefe zu verliehen.
Welche Relevanz kann eine Systematisierung des Schlechten, ein Gegen- oder Anti-Kanon heute haben? Was bringt die Kategorie des Geschmacks in der Analyse von Dingen an Neuem und wie aufschlussreich ist ein Negativkanon als Matrix für heutige Massenware und Design?
Die Ausstellung soll nicht nur abgeschlossene Ergebnisse vorstellen, sondern ist angelegt als Forschungsprojekt, in dem ein historischer Sammlungsbereich des Museums nach seiner heutigen Relevanz befragt und die Arbeit des Museums an einem Aspekt der Produktkultur exemplarisch öffentlich gezeigt wird. Zugleich wird die Position „Das Museum als Ort der Verhandlung“ ernst genommen und Gestalter sowie die Besucher während der Laufzeit an der Erforschung des Gegenstands beteiligt.


Evil Things. An Encyclopedia Of Bad Taste

At the beginning of the 20th century Gustav E. Pazaurek developed an imaginative nomenclature of evil for his highly differenciated system of the "order of things". Nowadays this could be easily considered as a late romantic semantic outgrowth of the 19th century. In fact Pazaurek's collision of purpose, rapes of material and cruelties of decoration can throw a new spot on current questions on design and material, but also on the influence of things on our action.
Production, appearance and use have become a moral affair again, with the categories of "good" and "bad" being negotiated implicitly.
Pazaurek's system is the exhibtion's starting point in order to reinforce the current discussion about values by confronting old and new "evil things".
What relevance can a systematisation of bad, an anti-canon actually have? Does the category of taste improve the analysis of things and how instructive is an anti-canon as a matrix for contemporary mass production and design?
The exhibition will not only present results, but is also regarded as a research project, in which a historic collection field of the museum is being qustioned about today's relevance while the museum's work on an aspect of product culture will be presented to the public in an exemplary way.
The museum's position as a "place of negotiation" wants to include designers and visitors in the research of the objects in question.
